What is the NOD Study?

In the Naltrexone for Overdose Prevention (NOD) study, we want to see if naltrexone can prevent fentanyl overdoses in people who use other drugs (like methamphetamine or cocaine). In this study, all participants will receive harm reduction materials, such as new needles or pipes. Half of study participants will also receive the study medication.

Great question! While someone may not intentionally use fentanyl, it's being found in various drug supplies and leading to unintentional overdoses. Naltrexone works as an opioid blocker on certain receptors in the brain. We are investigating if injectable naltrexone can help to prevent accidental overdose for people who use stimulants, such as methamphetamine and cocaine.
